Here are some cemetery related things that I find interesting and would like to share with all you findagravers.

Open Grave Photos

Check out these photos of an open grave with a vault inside. I saw this while photographing tombstones for findagrave. There were no caretakers around, not even a pile of dirt to close the grave.

Old Casket Handle Found in Cemetery

I was out tombstoning one day in September of 2010 and came across what I thought was a piece of junk. It was a piece of metal and on closer inspection, I realized it must have been a part of an old casket. Where I found this, there was a hole, which I am guessing was a groundhog hole. I think the groundhog found it down there in his borough, and brought it up to get it out of the way. I decided to keep it. The wood still smelled of cedar when I found it, but now, it has lost the scent. Could it have possibly been from a fresh cut from the teeth of a groundhog? We'll never know! Check out a pictures of the handle by clicking on the thumbnails below.

My Feathered Friends Helping Me Find a Grave

I was in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana in September of 2011 when a flock of geese decided to land. Looks like they wanted to help me find graves.

Deer at the Cemetery

In Summer of 2015 I was photographing stones in Mount Hope Cemetery in Huntington, Indiana when I saw a deer in the cemetery. This isn't he first time I've seen deer here before. It's actually a nice place for the deer to live and hide. This deer was wandering the cemetery and so I drove to have a look. I got to the back and he/she was curious and even let me take his/her picture. It's been my profile photo on Find A Grave for quite some time but I thought I'd add it here to share anyway.

Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake, Wisconsin

Findagrave photo by Rick
Dartford Cemetery is pioneer cemetery which is said to be a haunted cemetery in Green Lake County, Wisconsin, which was featured on the Discovery Channel's series, A Haunting. Among other things, it is said that a group of boys sat on top of the mausoleum pictured in the background on this photo. Suddenly a crack appeared in the concrete and one of the boys was pushed off of the mausoleum by some unexplained force. Visit Unexplained Research for more information. Here is another page of theirs which includes photos of the cemetery.
