= Tips and Tech Help for Find A Grave=

I try to help users when I can with technical questions regarding findagrave.com. If you have a question and you can't find the answer in Findagrave.com's own FAQ, drop me an e-mail and I will try to answer it and post the answer here.

How do I create a virtual cemetery?

First, make sure you are logged in to your findagrave.com account. Next, visit this link to add a new virtual cemetery. Now when you are on the memorial page of the person which you wish to add to the virtual cemetery, click on the link which reads "Edit Virtual Cemetery info." A page will come up with a list of your virtual cemeteries. Put a check mark into the box of the cemetery which you wish to add this person and submit. You have now created a virtual cemetery and added a person to it.

Do you know how to locate interments by exact dates?

I have done this a few times. All you need is a date and a search engine. Yahoo and Google are my favorites. At the search engine, type in the date exactly as it appears in "findagrave format." That is the first 3 letters of the month followed by a period, date, comma and year. Then you must write "domain:findagrave.com" after the date and then perform the search. For example, if I wanted to search for a grave with the date of January 1, 2000, I would enter the following into the search engine: Jan. 1, 2000 domain:findagrave.com and it should bring up some, but not all, interments which include this date.

Do you know of a way to submit the same photo to multiple memorial pages without having to upload it multiple times?

I have found a way to do this and I have checked with the administrators at FindAGrave to make sure it is ok. They never told me that it wasn't so I assume that it is acceptable to do this. This is really only beneficial for dial-up users as it would probably take less time to upload the photo multiple times than it would to go through the hassle of remote linking the photo from one page to another, which is essentially what this method does.
First of all, it is only acceptable to add the same photo to a memorial page when you are adding a tombstone photo that has multiple names on it only. Anything else should not be uploaded to multiple pages. Click here for instructions on how to remote link the photos.

Please put "Findagrave" in the subject lines of e-mails to me so your e-mail won't be mistaken for spam.
