= Tombstoner's Personal FAQ =

OK, so this is kind of silly to have my own FAQ, but believe it or not, I get asked these questions a lot!

Why "Tombstoner?"

My screen name is Tombstoner, as of course you know by now. I created it about a month or so after joining Find A Grave. It simply means somebody who finds tombstones (graves). Isn't that what this is all about? It has nothing to do with being a "stoner" as what one would generally think that might mean.

Tombstoner, will you add my relative?

I am just a regular user who happens to like adding names more than the usual user. I have gotten several e-mails from people asking me to add the names of their relatives. I am glad to do it, however, I don't own the site and anyone else can do it just as well as I can, or even better if they know the person which you wish to add. I do not own findagrave and have no more special privileges than anyone else has.

Why are some of my relatives missing?

When I add names to findagrave, I pick them mostly by random. I get most of my names from these sources. That is why some of your relatives may be listed and some not. You are always welcome to add your other relatives to findagrave. If you see your relative on findagrave added by me and you wish to "own" the memorial, just drop me an e-mail stating if you wish to have the memorial transferred to your ownership or if you'd like me to delete it all together.

Did you know my relative?

In most cases, I don't know the people I have added to findagrave. As stated above, I pick them mostly by random from different sources from around the Internet. If I did know the person, he or she will be listed in one of my virtual cemeteries.

Please REMOVE my relative!

I never mean to offend anyone by adding his or her friend or relative to findagrave. However, someone occassionally will disapprove that I have added their relative. In that case, just drop me an e-mail and I will respectfully remove it.

Why so many entries? How did you do this?

Initially I joined Find A Grave to add a couple of names but now Find A Grave has become my hobby. I look at it this way - every name that I add is one more name someone may be searching for one day. Some people may think it is a warped sense of "fun" but for a genealogist, it can be very helpful. If you haven't noticed, I also like to photograph tombstones just as much as adding names to the database. You never know who might live across the country who would like to see a photograph of his or her loved ones' tombstone(s) but is unable to travel to the grave location.

I really like your website. How did you come up with the idea?

I needed this "tool" to get me where I wanted to go without having to take so much time to search for the cemeteries all the time. I've been using this almost the entire time I've been adding names to the database. Basically, all it is is bookmarks at your fingertips.... or mouse pointer. I don't see how everybody else does without one of these.
For those who don't understand how my site works, I'll try to explain. My site it not connected to findagrave at all. I have built my entire site around the findagrave site. The links I have created within my web site tell the computer to load the findagrave site at the left of the screen and at the right of the screen it knows to load the small frame which is my own coding. The "frame" on the right controls what the left hand side of the screen does, which in this case, it tells it to visit findagrave. It's two sites in one. The sites that I have written are identified with a gray tombstone which has the letter "t" on it. If you see the "t", it's a part of my website. If you don't see the "t" it's a part of findagrave. Here is what the tombstone looks like.

Can you help me with computer questions regarding findagrave?

I get a lot of questions sent to me asking for help with navigating through findagrave. Though I had nothing to do with creating the site at all, I can answer most of the questions regarding how to navigate through the site. For more info, please visit Tips and Tech Help for Findagrave.

Please put "Findagrave" in the subject lines of e-mails to me so your e-mail won't be mistaken for spam.
